…name tags! Truly, I would have been lost without them this weekend. My first thought driving up to the reunion venue was “Who are all these OLD people? I don’t recognize anyone!”
The first half hour was very surreal. I graduated with a class of 600+, so it was hard to know everyone even back in the day… but to recognize people I haven’t seen in 30 years? – dauting to say the least!!, and oddly amusing.
There are those who have changed so much you aren’t really sure they’re the same person.
There are some who haven’t changed at all… well at least maturity-wise!
There are those who you would recognize any day… those who truly look the same. (Apparently I am one of these, as that was the first thing almost everyone said…. which has me slighly worried that I’m one of those poor people with the truly dated look and doesn’t realize she has left the 70’s :o)
Some are bald, some are heavier, some have spent too much time in the California sun. Some kind of made you sad.
It was truly a hoot. Many of these people I went ALLLL through school with, from Kindergarten to graduation day, but haven’t seen since that night 30 years ago (it was actually 30 years ago, to the day). Those oldest friends were the funnest to hook up with again, and the easiest to recognize. Some I didn’t realize how much I have missed… the ones who ask about your parents, and what you’ve been doing, and really want to see your kid’s pictures.
All in all, everyone seemed to just have a fun time – the cliques were gone, most had “gotten over themselves” and everyone seemed genuinely happy to see everyone and anyone.
I’m glad I went.
I try to never take for granted all the blessings God has given me… my husband, my marriage, my children, my entire family, who really does love each other and get along. Let’s just say, after this weekend, I am ever more so thankful. Not everyone has what I have… I am truly blessed.
wow, i can’t imagine what it would be like to be in a reunion like that! so far i’ve been boycotting mine (nothing much has changed in 10 years). but reading your post makes it sound like it would definately be a surreal experience, reconnecting with old friends and seeing how time has brought everyone to where they are now, whether good or bad, happy or sad.
It sounds like it was definitely worth y’all going. Glad you had a great time.
Amy
I am so glad you had a great time!
Funny how when you look back on life it makes you realize all the wonderful things you have now. It is wonderful that you can appreciate all the great things in your life. Not everyone is as lucky!
From your nametag, I’d say you do look almost the same! But I think you’re prettier now.
I went to my 10 year reunion and found that a lot of people hadn’t gotten over themselves yet. Unfortunately, I’ll miss my 20th this summer. Maybe I’ll make it to the 30th… I’m glad you had a good time!
This year will be my 10th but I think I will miss it :).
From your name tag and your recent pics on the blog I can say that you look fabulous! And you are still smiling as big as in that picture 🙂
Eeeek! I have my 30th this year also! It should be fun. Is Bonita in the newest IK? I love it and I love your description regarding the lace and stockinette – right up my alley!
Doh – I see it on your side bar – IK Summer ’06!
Sounds wonderful!
Sounds like you had a great time. I think you look much like your picture in the blog- not outdated, but rather youthful : ) My 20 year is this summer, but I don’t want to spring for the ticket to get to Ohio from Italy, so I will have to wait for the 30 year and from the sounds of it, it’ll be worth it!
I went to my 30th last October (and blogged about it too)! What A Trip! I ended up hanging out with mostly my elementary school friends. It was so funny — in high school I think we all thought we were “too cool” for each other. After 30 years and being done with all the “search for identity” we settled on each other! So fun to catch up. I had the same impression of “what are all these old people doing here?”! Glad you didn’t miss it.
Hey, did I tell you I met a bunch of your friends at the WWKIP? They knew you from Anacapa. Fun time.
Hello! I’m such a ditz! I was just looking at my bloglines and started wondering why you hadn’t posted in so long. Where’s Lynda? So I came to find out and realized that I had deleted your new blog on my list instead of your old blogger one. Ugh. Now I have catching up to do.
Bonita is looking great. It’s actually a pretty fun pattern and goes quickly (when you don’t make too many mistakes.)
Glad to hear you had a good time!
My graduating class had a total of 68 people in it – we have never had a reunion since most of us still live here and we see each other all the time ;o)
You look just like your nametag pictures!!!
I’m glad you came home feeling blessed!
Of course you would.
You have a fabulous attitude :o)
Sounds like it was a fun night! Oh and I so agree, those picture nametags are just lifesavers.
